This I Promise You - by NSync

When the visions around you,
Bring tears to your eyes
And all that surround you,
Are secrets and lies
I'll be your strength,
I'll give you hope,
Keeping your faith when it's gone
The one you should call,
Was standing here all along..

And I will take
You in my arms
And hold you right where you belong
Till the day my life is through
This I promise you
This I promise you

I've loved you forever,
In lifetimes before
And I promise you never...
Will you hurt anymore
I give you my word
I give you my heart (give you my heart)
This is a battle we've won
And with this vow,
Forever has now begun...

Just close your eyes (close your eyes)
Each loving day (each loving day)
I know this feeling won't go away (no..)
Till the day my life is through
This I promise you..
This I promise you..

Over and over I fall (over and over I fall)
When I hear you call
Without you in my life baby
I just wouldn't be living at all...

And I will take (I will take you in my arms)
You in my arms
And hold you right where you belong (right where you belong)
Till the day my life is through
This I promise you baby

Just close your eyes
Each loving day (each loving day)
I know this feeling won't go away (no..)
Every word I say is true
This I promise you

Every word I say is true
This I promise you
Ooh, I promise you...

Ek Mohabbat (Taj Anthem) - A R Rahman

The Taj Mahal, tomb of Mumtaz Mahal built by her widowed husband (not actually widowed - he had several other wives though he loved Mumtaz the most..) who wanted to build a tomb for his favorite wife and love of his life that the world had never seen before and would never see again. To commemorate the beauty of Taj and the eternal love it represents, A.R. Rahman has composed a track 'Ek Mohabbat'. Recently, Taj Mahal was voted (most appropriately..) as one of the Ancient Seven Wonders of the World and there is no doubt in the fact that, this particular song had inspired many Indians and people all over the world to vote for Taj.

Class of the master is visible from the first note itself as Rahman begins this soft number with an orchestra that matches international standards. While Indian feel is quite apparent in the melody that has been woven for 'Ek Mohabbat', the song is such that it could even woo the West due to it's sheer simplicity coupled with class.
The song revolves around the theme of pure love beating all odds and surpassing the lust for power and wealth. Chorus effect further adds value to this beautiful track that is mesmerizing as well as haunting. Listen it in isolation with no disturbance whatsoever and the experience is of the kind that can only be relished !

Kailash kher - Teri Deewani

This song is a sheer treat.. Very few singers can sing this song (which is a sorta sufi and soft rock fusion) better than Kailesh kher.. He has a great control over his voice (sur, shruti etc). This is reflected in all his songs and Teri Deewani is no exception.. Although initially my conservative mind refused to accept the song, when someone told me about it. As I saw the video, i started lifting all the reservations against it.

You have a purview of various people in love going about their daily motions of professing their love for their special someone, whilst the background is filled with his unique earthy tone and hi-pitched, yet throaty raspy voice (with some added counters.. ). The rest is filled with excellent combination of back vocals, base guitaring, all kept in supreme melodious synchronization by the drumming! Everything seems to have been blended perfectly into the song..

Full credit goes to the video’s director and the guy who came up with the idea of the video. It’s so human. So, "relatable" ! Another striking thing is the girl dancing in the fast fading dusky sun, with the fireworks in the background. It is simply divine!!

There’s something about his songs that really captivate you. Their lyrics seems to transcend me to another place.(Although I don’t "really" think I understand ‘em!! ;-) )

Beirut - Strings

The world is going through strange turmoil. Wars make are making headlines with the lynch pin being the War on Terror. Under this banner, America attacked first Afghanistan and then Iraq and then Israel followed this year by bombing Lebanon. The myriad news channels, both foreign and homegrown, cover the real politick behind such decisions. In times like these, it often seems like Pakistani art is functioning within a rosy bubble of romance and froth.

In such drastic times, it was surprisingly pop sensation Strings who decided to make a simple yet effective song to portray the face of the new world. It is called 'Beirut' and it has touched both hearts and minds in Pakistan. With the country following the war so closely, it is a song that everyone can identify with. With a video that focuses on images from the war and tag lines that give information on how many have died and how many others rendered homeless, 'Beirut' makes one think even as one is humming along to it.
